Volkswagen Automobile takes control of the manufacturer of heavy Swedish Scania
Frankfurt, Germany, 03 Mar (Lusa) - The German manufacturer Volkswagen will take control of the manufacturer of heavy Swedish Scania, having reached agreement with the Wallenberg family, announced today the German group
The German manufacturer, which already was the first shareholder in Scania, reached an agreement with Investor AB, controlled by the Wallenberg and foundations belonging to the family, to acquire their shares in Scania.
Volkswagen accepted pay 200 Swedish kronor (21.35 euros) per share, according to a release, the amount involved in the purchase thus reach around 2.87 billion euros.
The group of Wolfsburg (northern Germany) will hold 68.60 percent of the voting rights, against 37.98 by far, and sees its share rising from 20.89 to 37.73 percent of the capital.
For several months that the VW demand increase its voting rights in Scania, as was done at MAN, the conglomerate that manufactures heavy and that Volkswagen is the first shareholder.
A MAN announced in December that their rights of votes in Scania were 17 percent.
At the end of 2006, the MAN tried to take control of Scania, without success for lack of agreement from several shareholders, including Volkswagen.
Since then, The Volskwagen had called themselves the resolution of the matter, working for several months within a friendly solution to achieve a rapprochement between the two groups.
The announcement of the purchase of shares in Scania by the Volkswagen was greeted by MAN, which believes there now "better conditions for the desired cooperation with Scania and activities lorries of VW"
