Profits of the Macao Telecommunications Company exceeding 660 million patacas in 2007 [


Director-General of the Macao Telecommunications Company (CTM), Vandy Poon, showed that the profits of the company in 2007 to be located in about 660 million patacas (82.5 million dollars) .

In a meeting with journalists, Vandy Poon said that the net profits of CTM rose 20 percent over 2006 when they reached 547 million patacas.

The head of the CTM also mentioned that the company has plans to invest over the next five years about 1.6 billion patacas (200 million dollars) in infrastructure and improvement of networks.

In 2007, CTM announced Tuesday in Macao invested 300 million patacas (37.5 million dollars).

Macau, which has four operators of mobile phones offering seven networks, has a penetration rate of around 148 per cent in a population of 530 thousand people.

At the end of December 2007 there were 178,013 fixed lines in Macao, 794,323 mobile phone numbers, including prepaid cards and 119,913 subscriptions to the Internet.

The Telecommunications Company of Macau has as partners the British Cable & Wireless with 51 percent of the capital, Portugal Telecom with 28 percent of the capital, CITIC Pacific with 20 percent and the Government of Macao with a percent
