Brazil: Recovery of the international business of real prejudice Marcopolo


Sao Paulo, Brazil, Feb. 26 - A manufacturer of bodywork Marcopolo closed 2007 with a net profit of 132 million reais, an annual increase of 9.5 percent and a turnover of 2129 million reais, advised the company on notice.

Despite the growth of the billing (plus 21.6 percent), sales in foreign markets were hampered by the recovery of the Brazilian currency, the company exported fewer bodywork, obtained less revenue and been forced to reduce the margins.

World production of the company in financial year 2007 was 17,807 units against 14,824 units in 2006.

In 2007, the units abroad produced 3,866 units against 4,249 units in the previous year and with the exception of South Africa, units in Portugal, Mexico and Colombia produced less in 2007.

Currently, Marcopolo is the largest manufacturer of bodywork in Latin America and one of the three largest in the world in the sector, with factories in Brazil, Portugal, South Africa, Mexico and Colombia.

The Brazilian unit of the group in Coimbra, Portugal, has a production capacity that currently around 230 units per year buses, and its production exported to European countries, notably Spain, Greece, France, England and the Netherlands
