The profit of EDP - Energias de Portugal should have fallen 1.9 per cent last year, compared with 2006, to 923.7 million euros, according to the average estimates of analysts contacted by the agency Lusa.

Forecasts point to a profit of between 868 million euros expected by Banif and 943 million euros provided by JP Morgan.

Estimates for the EBITDA (earnings before taxes, depreciation, interest and depreciation) range from between 2557 million euros expected by Banif and 2712 million euros provided by JP Morgan.

Analysts expect that the results of the EDP are influenced by two main factors: the sale of REN's participation in the restructuring plan the company. The sale of the participation of REN, which only now will be counted, should have a positive impact of 200 to 220 million euros in the results, according to estimates from analysts.

In contrast, the results will be affected between 100 and 150 million euros by the anticipation of the objectives of restructuring in the sector of distribution.

EDP had a restructuring plan that included the early retirement of 1,100 workers by 2010, but decided achieve much of this plan, with the retirement of some 500 workers, in the last quarter of last year, explains the analyst of Banif.

Another negative impact on expected results of the business of distribution is the decline of tariffs, decided in October by ERSE, coupled with rising prices in the "pool". These factors are negative for the accounts of EDP, in the short term, although the tariff deficit is recovered in the next few years, via charge by the EDP.

Analysts still expect the continuation of the growth of the business of renewable, Brazil and gas in the Iberian Peninsula, particularly in Spain.
