Brazil: Portuguese EDP subsidiary of the group company creates for renewable energy in South America

Sao Paulo, Brazil, February 27 - The Energies of Brazil just created a Enernova, a company that meet in South America the ventures of the group in the renewable energy sector, said Tuesday in Sao Paulo its chairman.

In the press conference, Pita António de Abreu said that in Brazil there is a great potential for production based on renewable sources and added that it be Energies of Brazil will focus its growth.

The Enernova will reach a production target of 1000 MW of electricity from small dams, factories, biomass, sugar cane and wind farms by 2012.

Pita de Abreu stressed that the Enernova will have close cooperation with a unit of renewable group of EDP - Energias de Portugal (EDP Renewable), group that is already the fourth largest world producer of wind energy.

EDP Renewable has in operation around 3600 MW in wind farms in Portugal, Spain, France, the United States and Poland.

The new business unit has shareholder participation of EDP Renewable (55 percent) and the energies of Brazil (45 percent).

The Enernova is the first business unit created by a tram operator in Brazil dedicated exclusively to renewable energy by starting a business with a portfolio of 12 small hydroelectric plants located in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Espirito Santo, bringing together 130 megawatts of capacity installed, in addition to other 29 megawatts under construction.

The Energias do Brasil is a holding company controlled by EDP - Energias de Portugal companies that controls the production, distribution (Bandeirante, Enersul and Escelsa) and marketing (Enertrade) of energy
